The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV on the podium at the Rallye Rebelle!
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to contest the 10-day, 2,000 km off-highway navigational event that took place in late October through the deserts of Nevada and California.
For the second year, Mitsubishi supported the Record the Journey women's team composed of US Army combat veterans Rachael Ridenour and Kristie Levy.
With 1034 points, the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV placed third in the Rebelle Rally in the X-Cross class of the all-female sailing challenge.
RTJ founder and navigator, Sergeant Major Rachael Ridenour (retired) teamed up with Staff Sergeant Kristie Levy (retired) who took the wheel.
Their Outlander PHEV, affectionately known as “Electra,” was put to the test for 10 grueling days and more than 2,000 kilometers through the deserts of the southern United States.
“Electra has served faithfully and reliably, impressing us with her versatility, ability and courage, not to mention her ability to travel with a smooth and quiet power supply,” said Ridenour, multiple Rebelle and former winner of the event. “Just finishing the Rebelle is an accomplishment, and doing it in an electrified vehicle was a bit of an experience, but the Outlander PHEV proved to be more than up to the task. It was a reliable partner in extreme circumstances - and being able to make coffee using the 110-volt outlet in the back was a luxurious taste of civilization in the middle of the desert.
The Rebelle Rally is the first all-female off-road raid in the United States and the longest-running competition of its kind. For the first time, in 2020, the event organizer opened the competition to electric vehicles, adding an electrified designation to both the 4 × 4 class and the X-Cross, to honor battery-electric vehicles ( BEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) in each class.
